Ethics, Research Methods and Standards for Biomedical Engineering
This course is designed for senior undergraduate students in biomedical engineering. It provides a comprehensive exploration of ethical theories, research methodologies, and regulatory standards pertinent to the biomedical field. Key topics include ethical decision-making, biomedical research ethics (such as informed consent and confidentiality), statistical literacy, experimental design, and the regulatory processes for medical device certification. Through a combination of lectures and problem analysis sessions, students engage in experiential learning activities that emphasize the societal, political, and financial impacts of biomedical technology. By the end of the course, students are expected to critically assess ethical dilemmas, design appropriate research methodologies, and effectively communicate their findings to multidisciplinary audiences.
